Nisenan Heritage Day - Remembering: We Are From the Stars
~~~~~~~~~~~
?
Join the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe and CHIRP for our 13th annual Nisenan Heritage Day from 11am - 3pm.
This year, Heritage Day will not only celebrate the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe, but also our Indigenous connections to space and the universe. Throughout the day, we will be celebrating Commander Nicole Mann, the first Indigenous female astronaut in space. Commander Mann is currently stationed at the International Space Station.
In collaboration with Jim and Kali from Calculus Roundtable, we are excited to provide a program on the “Math and Science of Indigenous People”, a STEM based computer workshop that includes Native storyboarding and interactive NASA activities for 4th grade - 12th grade youth. Spots are limited. Sign-ups are necessary: forms.gle/9LKuph74vt1jAs6h9
In addition we will have speakers, short films, art, and more great opportunities to learn more about the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe, our efforts toward Federal Recognition and much more. We are especially honored this year to host our good friend Troy Hatch and their Native dance group Wenne Penan, who will be onsite to stomp the ground full of prayers. In partnership with Sierra College NCC, we invite all ages to join us for our 13th Annual Nisenan Heritage Day - we hope to see you there!
Thank you BriarPatch Food Co-op for your unwavering sponsorship support of Nisenan Heritage Day.
We will have a schedule of events soon!
This is an all-age friendly event. Opening Welcome and introductions begin at 11 AM. Free event. Free parking.
