This event is the first in a month-long effort to draw attention to the threat of invasive plants, and what the community can do to protect our beloved Sonoran Desert flora and fauna!Meeting Location:

ABOUT SAVE OUR SAGUAROS MONTH: Become a saguaro steward! Every year, in the month of February, we call on our community to help us save saguaros and the animals that call them home. From what? Invasive grasses like buffelgrass and fountain grass! These invasive grasses smother young saguaros and fuel fires that can K*ll both young and old saguaros alike. Most of our native plants are not adapted to fire. In contrast, buffelgrass thrives on fire. This is one of the major dangers of buffelgrass. If a fire occurs in an uninvaded desert setting, it burns out quickly, but if fire starts in a buffelgrass-invaded desert, it will spread rapidly as far as this fire-loving grass will carry it. To learn more, visit buffelgrass.org.
Our partners for this event include: Tucson Audubon Society, Saguaro National Park, Pima County Conservation Lands and Resources, Pima County Natural Resources Department, Tucson Clean and Beautiful, UA Cooperative Extension, and City of Tucson.
