Defending The Prompt - Building Secure Tech Products in the AI Era

Organized by SaugaTech, supported by

AI is moving fast. And with that speed comes a set of risks that most organizations — and most builders — haven't fully reckoned with yet. Prompt injection. Model manipulation. Data leakage through third-party AI integrations. Security architectures designed for deterministic software being asked to govern probabilistic systems.

At our June 20 meetup, we're bringing two of the most technically sharp people in the SaugaTech community to open up an honest conversation about what technology risk and security actually look like in the AI era — from the ground up.

🌟 What We'll Do Together
Part 1: Technology Risk & Security in the AI Era

Aries Youssefian and Samiul Islam will open the session — Aries from a systems architecture perspective, Samiul from a prompt engineering and model interaction lens. Between them, they've spent hundreds of hours building with, breaking, and securing AI systems in real environments. This won't be a lecture. They'll share their point of view, surface the questions that don't have clean answers yet, and then open it up to the room. The best part of every SaugaTech session is when the conversation takes over — and this one is designed for exactly that.

What the discussion will cover:

  • How AI systems introduce new attack surfaces that traditional security frameworks weren't built for
  • Prompt injection, jailbreaking, and model manipulation — what they are and why they matter for builders
  • Securing AI integrations: what to think about when your product depends on a third-party model

Part 2: Builders Showcase (Post-pizza 🍕)

One of the things we hear most from this community is that people want more chances to share what they're actually working on — and to hear what others are building.

So we're adding a dedicated Builders Showcase to this session. Three slots of ten minutes each. A startup idea you're testing. A side project you've been quietly building. A personal tool that's changed how you work. A community you're growing. Whatever it is — if you've been building something and want a room full of supportive, curious people to show it to, this is your moment.

👥 Who Is This For?
  • Developers, engineers, and architects thinking about how to build AI systems responsibly
  • Product managers and founders who've integrated AI into their products and are now asking the harder questions
  • Security professionals curious about how AI changes the threat landscape
  • Mid-career professionals navigating the AI shift in their industry
  • Career switchers, students, and newcomers to Canada exploring the tech landscape
  • Anyone who is building something — or thinking about starting — and wants a room that will take it seriously

No specific background required. If you're curious about where AI and security intersect, you belong here.

💡 What You'll Walk Away With
  • A clearer mental model of the security and risk landscape for AI systems
  • Practical questions to ask — and things to watch for — in your own builds and integrations
  • Exposure to what others in the western GTA are building right now
  • Honest conversations with people navigating the same challenges you are
  • A wider network of builders and technologists right next door
