Satyaki Dutta - YouTube

Satyaki Dutta is a distinguished Sarod artist representing the Shahjahanpur Gharana of Indian classical music. The Sarod, a North Indian classical instrument from the lute family, traces its lineage to the Rabab of Afghanistan. Characterized by its fretless metal fingerboard, the Sarod features eight main strings and fifteen sympathetic strings, producing a deep, resonant tone that is both lyrical and percussive. Satyaki received rigorous training under the legendary Padmabhushan Pandit Buddhadev DasGupta, the eminent maestro of the Senia-Shahjahanpur Gharana and subsequently continued his artistic journey under Pandit Sugato Nag, a distinguished Sitar virtuoso, and Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan, the Khalifa (head) of the Lucknow-Shahjahanpur Gharana. In addition to his musical pursuits, Satyaki holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics and resides in Westchester County, New York. He is a member of the Westchester Musicians’ Guild and a rostered artist with Concerts in Motion (NYC), an organization dedicated to bringing live, personalized music to older adults, veterans, Holocaust survivors, individuals with disabilities or mental illness, and those experiencing housing insecurity or hospitalization. Satyaki is a recipient of the ArtsAlive Artists’ Grants (2021 and 2024) awarded by ArtsWestchester, and the 2023 New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Support for Artists Grant. With these, he presented his project “The Raga Experience”, aimed at fostering greater awareness and appreciation of Raga music among both Indian and global audiences.
