This event is a collaborative production between the Humboldt Historical Society, Humboldt County Library, and the Clarke Museum, promising an enriching experience for history enthusiasts and curious minds alike.
Dive into the captivating world of the Spanish in Trinidad from June 9-19, 1775, as we uncover the insights gleaned from Spanish sea captains Juan Francisco de la Bodega and Bruno Hezeta. Their observations, extracted from the book "The Four Ages of Tsurai A Documentary History of the Indian Village on Trinidad Bay," translated by Donald C. Cutter, offer a unique window into this pivotal historical moment.
It promises to be a voyage of discovery as we explore the mission behind the Spanish expedition, ranging from seeking safe harbors to unraveling the mysteries of the Pacific Northwest nearly 250 years ago. The landing in Trinidad marked the first contact between the Spanish and the people of Tsurai, shaping the course of history for generations to come.
Patti Fleschner, a 45-year resident of Trinidad and director of the Trinidad Museum Society, leads us through this historical journey. With a master's degree in history and a penchant for storytelling, Patti's expertise shines through her weekly column, "Trinidad Tidings,"
Join Patti as she unveils unfamiliar stories about Trinidad's past, offering a captivating glimpse into the town's rich history.
