Savoy Cinema and The Loft Movie Theatre are proud to present a special screening of Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, the classic 1960 adaptation of Alan Sillitoe’s ground-breaking novel.
Set and filmed in Nottingham, the film follows Raleigh factory worker Arthur Seaton (Albert Finney in his breakout role) through a whirlwind of work, rebellion, and weekend excess in post-war Britain.
A cornerstone of British New Wave cinema, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning is a defining example of "kitchen sink" drama; gritty, unsentimental, and rooted in working-class life - a world away from the gloss of contemporary Hollywood. A Nottingham native himself, Sillitoe drew directly on his own experiences growing up in the city - his father worked at the Raleigh factory that forms the backdrop to the story.
Quintessentially Nottingham, it captures the city in a very different era - yet one that remains unmistakably familiar at its core. Featuring scenes shot at Goose Fair, across Radford and Lenton, and even inside the Savoy Cinema itself, it offers a rare glimpse into the city’s cinematic past.
Join us for a unique chance to experience this film exactly where part of it was made - and to walk the very stairs you’ll glimpse on the big screen.
There are no trailers before the performance, but there will be a short introduction before the film.
