Saturday, July 25, 2026: Hike & Rock Scramble - Bonticou Crag and A/C

About this Event

This hiking event includes rock scrambles, boulder caves, a sense of adventure and accomplishment and some incredible views and unforgettable experiences!

Our hike is a combination of primitive and carriage trails, air conditioned boulder fields, and a fun yet challenging rock scramble (bypass available).

The rock scramble is moderate for most although it can be psychologically challenging especially for adults who have amassed fears over time.

Ride shares available depending on drivers. The contribution is $35 cash if you need a ride. The ride is approximately 1:45 min. long to the foothills to the Catskills.

To be notified of weather cancellation, parking issues or ride shares, you MUST register so we can contact you via text and email.

There is a Mohonk Preserve Park Use fee: ~$15 per person. Paid upon to Ranger at the parking lot entrance.

It is free to join the group and tag along.

In case of rain forecast, the decision will be confirmed Friday as to start time or cancellation.

A great hike in a magical space with white castle walls, vast sweeping vistas, fun challenges, and a good easy work out on the trail.

• Elevation Gain: Under 600'
• Pace: Casual (Not recommended for beginners)

What to bring:

• Hiking boots/shoes with traction and good ankle support
• Lunch 3+ liters hydration (hikers have been running short on hydration even with 2 liters)
• Day pack to leave your hands free
• Rain jacket if there is possibility of rain
• Cash (apres hike bite and brew, if ridesharing, and park use fee)

Optional:

• Climbing gloves
• Camera
• Bug repellent (yes they are out)
• Sunscreen
• Hat
• Spare shirt for after the hike (highly suggested)
• Snacks
