Andrew Luhn, musical director, is a pianist, composer, writer and educator originally from Lima, Ohio, also the hometown of saxophonist Joe Henderson. After hearing Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson at an early age, Andrew set his sights on piano and became fascinated by improvisation and jazz composition. He began piano studies with Don Hurless, an early mentor of Joe Henderson.

Andrew attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where he studied jazz with Mark Flugge and Roger Hines. He began playing professionally in jazz combos, churches, and touring with Ohio’s premier salsa band: The Noe Salsa Project. 

Since moving to New York, Andrew has expanded his interests to include jazz literature, analysis and transcriptions. His work has been praised by the likes of Randy Brecker and Ethan Iverson. His recent collaboration with pianist Dave Kikoski is already a must read for any serious student of jazz.

Over the past few years, Andrew has become a serious composer. His work is available on major streaming platforms.  As an educator, he is already making an imprint on the next generation of musicians and composers. 

Saturday 5 was co-founded by Andrew  and tenor saxophonist Victor Horowitz It reflects the group’s ability to blend mainstream soulfulness with contemporary jazz. Over the past few years, the group has performed at jazz clubs and events throughout the metropolitan area and East Coast. Saturday 5’s original music incorporates the New York scene with influences running from Bach to Charlie Parker. 

Victor Horowitz, a native of New Jersey, has been passionate about jazz since 8th grade when he heard Freddie Hubbard and Junior Cook at the Village Vanguard. His early studies on saxophone were with Joe Allard, the teacher of Michael Brecker, Eric Dolphy, Steve Grossman and many of the great 20th century players. He has also studied with jazz luminaries such as Bob Mover (Mingus & Chet Baker alumni), Dave Leibman, Kevin Sun (2022 Downbeat talent deserving wider recognition) and classical recording artist Allen Won. Victor left the field of law to concentrate on jazz performance and the business of jazz. He presently continues his jazz career as an organizer and player. 

Jeff Shapiro, also a lawyer and musician, has studied with the great Jimmy Owens as well as the legendary John McNeal. A true student of jazz, Jeff continues to split his time between the practice of law and jazz performance. 

Andy Weintraub has been on the jazz scene for three decades. In addition to playing with countless jazz artists, he has toured worldwide and played with many pop icons, including Chubby Checkers, Shania Twain and Eddie Holman!
