One of the most famous jazz musicians wrote one of his most renowned songs about a woman right here from Milwaukee!
The Milwaukee County Historical Society is hosting a live music event on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, celebrating the history of jazz music and highlighting the illustrious story of Milwaukee’s own Minnette Wilson, Duke Ellington’s alleged muse who inspired his timeless tune, “Satin Doll.”
All are invited to attend this performance which features a thrilling lineup of musical talent accompanied by original choreography that celebrates historical figures from our community.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres, coffee, desserts, and a cash bar available.
The production begins at 7:00 p.m. with Jon Mroz and the Troubadours of Rhythm performing early jazz standards.
The Milwaukee County Historical Society will then deliver a brief presentation, including historic footage of Milwaukee’s “Satin Doll” Minnette Wilson.
Attendees will enjoy a spotlight dance by Phairra Ahmani Jones as Minnette Wilson, enhanced by the melodic vocals of Corynn Latta, and the piano stylings of Trace Ellington, direct descendant of The Duke himself and owner of Mood Indigo Recordings. The show will conclude with the Tael Estremera Trio performing Duke Ellington tunes, with Corynn Latta returning to the stage as a special guest star.
