Experiment with the art of decorative repair using recycled textiles in this hands-on workshop.
With guidance from Pip Steel, curator of the Boro – Timeworn Textiles of Japan exhibition, and lots of visual inspiration, you will create your own sashiko-stitched sampler to take home. Alternatively, attendees can bring a favourite item of clothing to visibly mend. The workshop will explore key techniques seen in the Boro exhibition, including stitching, layering, and mending.
This workshop is suitable for beginners through to those with stitching experience. Come along to be inspired and develop the practical skills to continue your own textile projects.
A 'to-bring' list will be provided prior to the workshop, and some materials will be supplied, along with a take-home reference handout.
11am – 2pm, Sunday 11 October
