About this Event
Rooted in Japanese textile tradition, Boro is an artistic way to reuse fabric scrap materials to reinforce, repair, and decorate worn fabrics — giving them new life while celebrating their history.
Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned stitcher, this relaxed and supportive session will guide you through the basics of Sashiko and Boro, from selecting fabric and thread to planning and stitching your own patch. We’ll explore simple geometric patterns and talk about how mending can help reduce textile waste while reconnecting us with the things we wear.
What’s included:
- Guided instruction and demonstrations
- All materials provided (fabric, thread, needles, practice pieces)
- A handout to take home with tips and resources
What to bring:
- A garment or home textiles you'd like to decorate with Boro and Sashiko. This can be jeans, jackets, tote bags and even oven gloves! However we recommend you choose a something made out of non stretchy fabric to make it easier to stitch onto.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn something new
Perfect for:
- Beginners and experienced sewers alike
- Those who want to slow down, stitch, and connect
- Anyone interested in sustainability, slow fashion, and creative handwork
Let’s keep textiles out of landfill, one repair at a time.
