About this Event
In this workshop, we will learn several ways that you can become a citizen scientist by utilizing various apps on your smart phone while in nature. We are excited to welcome naturalist and bird guide, Aidan Rominger, to provide an intro into using eBird and tips for observing spring bird migrations. MCC’s Ben Miller will provide a quick tutorial on using iNaturalist and how to join the upcoming “City Nature Challenge” occuring April 24-27.

From Aidan: Hi! I’m Aidan Rominger. I’ve had a fascination with the natural world for as long as I can remember and bring over a decade of birding experience to every tour. Based in Indiana, I’ve explored much of North America in pursuit of birds. I have been published in several national birding magazines for my experience and photography.
I have years of guiding experience having led for organizations including Indiana Audubon, Amos Butler Audubon, Indiana Dunes Birding Festival, and The Biggest Week in American Birding to name a few! I currently work as a naturalist at Eagle Creek Ornithology Center and serve as a wetland habitat manager at Eagle Creek Park. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced birder, my goal is to provide relaxed, informative, and highly personalized birding experiences!

Ben Miller serves as MCC's first (part-time) Executive Director and is excited to continue leading Mud Creek Conservancy in this new capacity. He and his wife Maggie have lived in the Mud Creek Valley (and on Mud Creek) since 2016 and have both served on the Mud Creek Conservancy board. For the past 6 years (2019-2025), Ben has served as MCC’s Board President. In that time, he helped lead the organization to its first land acquisition (and four others) and the creation of its flagship public space, Sargent Road Nature Park. Ben brings a background in land conservation and community engagement, having spent a decade with the Indiana DNR, where he worked as a fisheries biologist and later led one of the state’s largest land protection initiatives, the Healthy Rivers Initiative.
