“In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown, and in between them, there are doors”
- William Blake (1970)
A beginning, a starting point, often the inception will occur before we are ready. This exhibition will present a series of new paintings by Sarah Wren Wilson. The work shown will examine the phenomenology of the in-between space and the complexities between the known and unknown.

Wren Wilson's work draws from the artist's current experience of an in-between time as she transitions into an new environment in the West of Ireland. Through form and colour, a process of adjustment and readjustment plays out in new territories and surface qualities. The role of the artist is reactive as curved lines meet creating unexpected pathways and formations. An approach which considers the relationship between thought and its formal translation onto a canvas. As the paintings move away from the realms of representation into abstraction so do their perimeters. In this reduction, each sweeping mark becomes significant, every application of paint a mode of communication in the search for understanding and sensibility.
If only I knew will consider the opportunities of the liminal space, an arena that forces us beyond our familiar boundaries. As the compositions evolve and shift, loose fluid brush strokes and areas of hard-edged opaque colour sing in contradiction.
