Why: Executive function skills refer to specific mental skills used to focus, organize, plan tasks and materials, start tasks and stay focused on them, manage emotions and be flexible, and keep track of what we are doing. Young children rely on these skills to follow a sequence of instructions for daily tasks, while older children need these skills to “break a task down” into a sequence of steps and organize a timeline as the demands for independent learning increase. These skills can impact students at home, school, and in social situations.
**This presentation is made possible by Maynard’s SEPAC, with the support of Maynard’s Student Services/Special Education Department, and in collaboration with SEPACs from Nashoba, Concord, Northborough/Southborough, and Hingham**
