When I was planning our Fall performances at Studio5, this particular date jumped out at me. I realized that November 8 would just be three days after the election. Without any way of knowing in advance what would happen that week, the only thing that made sense to me was to be certain our event on 11/8 would fill the room with love. So I picked up my phone and did the obvious thing: I contacted Sarah Marie Young. She heard me, joyfully accepted the challenge, and I am grateful. Her exact response was: “Peace, Love and Understanding. We’ll play choice songs from my past 6 albums and some of our favorite feel good music.”
I am writing this in August. I know our country has a difficult path ahead. My hope is that we face our hard work with joy, and gather together on 11/8 in the spirit of the fellow travelers that we are. – Steve Rashid
