For centuries, humans have tried to make sense of their world by reflecting on the landscape around them. Whether when pining away in heartbreak or when rejoicing in the presence of God, humans have always found counterparts to their emotional extremes in nature. Join soprano Sarah Joyce Cooper and pianist and composer Ramsey Reyes for an exploration of life’s most powerful emotions and creation’s most poignant landscapes, set to music and poetry. Though penned in generations past, the melodies and stories are timeless, coming to life again through the perspective of these young interpreters humbly grateful to share a fresh take on these universal experiences in the here and now.
Featuring works by Turina, Debussy, Moses Hogan, and more

About the musicians:
Sarah Joyce Cooper has received praise for her "meltingly beautiful" (Opera News) singing and “alluring” (Don & Catharine Bryan Cultural Series) stage presence. Previous performances include La Charmeuse in Thaïs (Maryland Lyric Opera), Micaëla in Carmen (Prelude to Performance), Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro (Savannah Voice Festival), Violetta in La Traviata (New York Opera Studio), Mimì in La Bohème (Opera Theater of Cape Cod), and Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Boston Opera Collaborative). Ms. Cooper has also appeared as a soloist with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, the Maryland Lyric Opera Orchestra, and the Radcliffe Choral Society at Harvard University. This fall, Ms. Cooper looks forward to making her debut with Opera Western Reserve as Juliette in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette and with MassOpera as Violetta in La Traviata. She also looks forward to returning to Boston Opera Collaborative to perform in its wildly popular winter Opera Bites series as Sabrina in the new opera In the House of Serenity by Laura Fuentes. In the spring, Ms. Cooper will make her debut with City Lyric Opera in New York City as Alice in a new, multimedia stage production of Elizabeth Raum’s The Garden of Alice. In addition to performing, Ms. Cooper serves as volunteer Executive Assistant for Help!ComeHome!, a 501c3 organization dedicated to meeting the needs of under-served communities throughout the US in Jesus’ Name.
