*SARAH DEAN AKA "The Incredible String Blonde!"
With 30 years of experience as a performer, Sarah has taken to the stage all over the world with many groups over the years. As a harper, multi-instrumentalist and singer she is also much in demand as a session musician, but it's her solo career alongside the alt-folk trio White Sail that currently keeps Sarah very busy. Recently Sarah has been in the studio recording a solo album 'Phthalo Blue' with some very special guests including one of Britains best loved guitarists Steve Hackett (Genesis, GTR), Dave Foster (Steve Rothery Band, Big Big Train), Ray 'Chopper' Cooper (ex Oysterband), Gavin Grifiths (Fish), Stu Fletcher (The Seahorses) Anne-Marie Helder (Luna Rossa, Panic Room) & lastly Reen Onion on violin! – she has gathered together a stella collection of musicians and friends to help her augment her songs and this much anticipated project should be finished by the end of the year. But for all the travels and all the musical adventures...it's to Yorkshire that Sarah has stayed. Her song Yorkshire Bound speaks of the love of her native City, York, and the need to be here in 'God's Own Country'. Her trio White Sail explores the love of the land and sea and many of Sarah's songs have been augmented by the group. In October last year White Sail toured with HotHouse Flowers enigmatic frontman Liam O'Maonlai and Sarah had the pleasure, along with band members Jane Stockdale and Chris Bartram of playing and singing alongside Liam as his 'backing band'.
Sarah writes songs about love, life, nature, happy dogs and cloudwatching! Creating beautiful and mesmeric soundscapes with the Celtic Harp, Sarah's voice and musical story telling will take you on an engaging and beautiful journey through song. With a stage presence that is warm and funny, the jokes and stories are never too far away too! Expect an entertaining night and also the hat full of Wagon Wheels as is the tradition when Sarah plays the club!
"I love playing at Crookes, it's intimate and friendly, a fabulous Yorkshire folk club!. I always look forward to hearing all the floor singers too and perhaps writing another Sheffield inspired verse to 'Rock Me Mama' ;-) and of course, passing the Wagon Wheels around!"

"...She performed solo to her own accompaniment on the harp and it was a lovely experience just to let the beautiful, gentle music wrap around you. I found it genuinely therapeutic..." - David Waterfield, The Midlands Rocks Magazine
"...That was really really beautiful. I'm not kidding you! I was getting a touch of Kate Bush there!" - Lucy Ward
"...so beautiful!...the song about The Flither Girls really touched me, very close to my heart, as Whitby is where I met Nancy (Kerr) - the subtle use of augmentation on the harp gives space for the singing to come through and tell the story..." - James Fagan
"Sarah Dean's 'Man In The Long Black Coat' - with harp no less, sounds crazy I know - but it works!" - Simon Jones, fROOTS - Review of 'Younger Than That Now' Bob Dylan's 70th Birthday Celebration Album
"Warm Sea... Seldom have I heard Sarah Dean in finer form than here. If this one doesn't move you then you are either made of stone or dead!" Alan Hewitt, Review within THE WAITING ROOM Magazine.
Doors open 8:15, *PLEASE WAIT DOWNSTAIRS UNTIL CALLED*
Singers and musicians of all standards and styles are welcome to come along and do a short floor spot.
Free entry: Collection & raffle for guest.
