Sarah Brown is currently serving as the Deputy Director for Community and Veterans Services, overseeing Probation, Veterans Services, and Animal Welfare since December 2023. She previously served as the Division Chief for Manatee County Animal Welfare, where she oversaw field services, shelter operations, and community-based programs for over seven years. Before joining Manatee County Government, Sarah was the Executive Director of The Humane Society of Pinellas, where she implemented innovative community-based programs to help keep people and pets together.
Before moving to Florida in 2011, Sarah lived in New York City and served as Senior Manager at Animal Care & Control of NYC, one of the largest shelters and non-profit organizations in the United States. Her career in animal welfare was preceded by a successful tenure in public relations and communications consulting.
Sarah holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism with a focus on Public Relations, a Master of Public Administration, a Project Management Certification, and an Animal Services Executive Leadership Certification. She is also a Certified Animal Control Officer and a Certified Dangerous Dog Investigator.
In addition to her professional roles, Sarah serves as the Treasurer for the Florida Animal Protection and Advocacy Association and the Vice President of the Florida Animal Protection and Advocacy Foundation. She has served on the board of the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations and was a founding board member of Meow NOW!, a TNR organization in Pinellas County.With almost 20 years of experience in government and nonprofit management, Sarah brings a deep passion for serving the community.
