Calling all sapphic romance lovers! Whether you’re a longtime fan of sapphic stories or just discovering the magic of women-loving-women romance, Pride & Petals is thrilled to host a free, in-person book club celebrating sapphic love in all its forms.
Our mission is simple: to bring together readers who share a passion for heartfelt stories, swoon-worthy characters, and authentic representation. Join us for an evening of lively discussion, tasty snacks, and genuine community connection. Whether you’ve read every sapphic romance under the sun or are just starting your journey, this is a safe, welcoming space to make new friends, share your thoughts, and celebrate love in all its beautiful diversity.

For our September 18th book club, we have chosen Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo:
Our next Sapphic pick is a gorgeous, heart-aching historical novel about first love, chosen identity, and finding your people in a world that doesn't have room for you yet.
It's 1954, and seventeen-year-old Lily Hu is growing up in San Francisco's Chinatown, where being a good Chinese daughter means keeping your head down and your heart quiet. But when Lily and her classmate Kathleen Miller slip under the flashing neon sign of a lesbian bar called the Telegraph Club, something in Lily cracks open, and she can't close it again. In the age of Red Scare paranoia, falling in love as two girls is dangerous. With deportation already threatening Lily's father despite his hard-won citizenship, every visit to the Telegraph Club is a risk and every moment with Kath is worth it.
This book has won the National Book Award, the Stonewall Book Award, and the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature, and it earns every one of them. It's the kind of story that reminds you how much courage it took, and still takes, to simply be who you are.
