Sapphic Flirting Workshop | Boston LGBTQ+ Singles | 21+
About this Event
Sapphics say they’re bad at flirting. Sapphics think women are scary. Sapphics are terrified to make the first move.
That’s bullshit.
Flirting isn’t an innate talent reserved for the charming, the conventionally hot, or the inexplicably self-assured. It’s a skill that anyone can learn.
In this two-hour workshop, Bisexual Killjoy co-host Bailey Merlin will help you become a more confident, courageous flirt through candid conversation, practical advice, demonstrations, and low-pressure practice with other sapphics. You’ll learn how to signal interest, recognize when someone may be interested in you, start a conversation, handle rejection without dissolving into the center of the earth, and embrace the beautiful indignity of making a fool of yourself. After all, what does love do but make fools of us all?
This workshop is for anyone who has ever failed to speak to a pretty girl in a bookstore, attempted to communicate desire through furtive glances, or spent six months wondering whether “I love your earrings” was a compliment or a come on.
Together, we’re taking your flirting game from nonexistent to confident enough to shoot your shot.
The space will be playful, supportive, and consent-centered. No one will be pressured to flirt, disclose personal information, or participate in an exercise that makes them uncomfortable. Come alone, bring a friend, or arrive with an entire nervous entourage.
And if you need help getting into the fray, Bailey will be there to take you under her wing—and perhaps even help you talk to the sapphic of your dreams! She would like to be thanked in a future wedding toast, commitment ceremony, housewarming, Subaru co-signing, and/or cat adoption, so she is invested in your success.
Co-hosted by Bisexual Killjoy and the Bisexual Resource Center, we're excited to welcome you to a queer haven: Dorchester Brewing, which has a variety of fabulous beers on tap, wine, cocktails, and NA options. Check out the menu on their website. If you’re hungry, M&M BBQ is also on site. Feel free to come early or grab a bite during the workshop.
What’s “sapphic”?
Sapphic is an inclusive umbrella term for women, including trans women and some nonbinary people, who are attracted to other women. We want bisexuals, pansexuals, lesbians, and all other sapphics in this space. Transphobia, lesbiphobia, and biphobia will not be tolerated. Keep it classy and kind.
Are trans women welcome?
Trans women are women! Get in here, babe.
Are non-binary people welcome?
If the sapphic label feels like it aligns with you, you should be in the space, too. The world spends a lot of time trying to tell queer people what to do, and we’re not interested in piling onto that.
Who can come?
Sapphics who are over the age of 21 and want to learn how to flirt with other sapphics.
What can I expect from this workshop?
Show up on time and check in to make a name tag with your name and pronouns. You will also select a beaded necklace to indicate your comfort level with physical touch: green (a friendly touch is welcome), yellow (a friendly touch is welcome with verbal consent), and red (no touch and no request to touch). Once we’re checked in, Bailey will tell us all about flirting, demonstrate with participants, and answer questions for about an hour before we shift into the practical side of the workshop with speed dating components (you talk to someone for 5 minutes before moving onto the next). By practicing, you’ll learn the basics of flirting and build your confidence for the real world!
Why is someone taking my picture?
Someone will grab photos at the events for our social media page. If you don’t want to be photographed or posted on our page, please let us know before the event starts.
