Amid global challenges—from conflict and climate breakdown to inequality, displacement, and genocide—Adult and Community Education in Ireland is creating vital spaces of hope, solidarity, and justice.
Join us for Making spACE for Justice, an in-person national gathering of educators, activists, and community leaders. This engaging event will explore how learning communities can foster transformative action and build a more just and equitable world. We'll have opportunities to dive into topics such as racism, legal perspectives on the current global challenges, and disinformation. Experts such as law professor Fionnuala Ní Aoláin and Aisling Meyer of AONTAS will be providing the tools and resources participants would need.
Be part of meaningful conversations, connect with changemakers, and help shape a future grounded in justice and solidarity.
Lunch as well as tea/coffee will be provided on the day.
Keynote Speaker:
- Dearbháil Lawless, CEO of AONTAS – The National Adult Learning Organisation
Dearbháil is a passionate advocate for lifelong learning, equality, and community empowerment, and will share insights on how adult learning can drive positive social change.
Workshops:
- Prof. Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, University of Minnesota Law School and Queen’s University Belfast, will explore how effective communication and legal approaches can shape organisational responses in divided areas and in contexts where international law is under pressure.
- Siphiwe Moyo, Community Development Worker and Racial Justice Facilitator, will provide guidance on fostering inclusive and anti-racist practices across educational settings using the Empower and INAR Anti-Racism Resource.
- Aisling Meyer, AONTAS, will present the Community Education Against Disinformation Workbook, designed to help adult and community educators understand how disinformation spreads, its impact on minoritised groups, and strategies to build critical thinking, empathy, and media literacy skills.
- Hilary Darcy, Financial Justice Ireland, and Katie Martin, Afri, will examine the links between financial systems, militarisation, and inequality, sharing strategies for resisting harmful financial flows and imagining alternatives rooted in justice and solidarity.
