Jaime Merino is a seasoned wine executive, avid gourmet and singer, bringing his passion for Chilean wine, food and song to the US trade and consumers for over twenty years.
Based Atlanta, GA since 2001, Merino was born and raised in Chile. He attended the Universidad Central in Chile and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After almost ten years working with foodservice baking yeast producer, Lessafre et Cie, he was lured from the delicious business of baking into the delicious business of wine in 1997.
As the Chilean wine industry was growing fast, Jaime’s expertise in business strategy, export sales and brand development was in high demand and resulted in roles with Canepa Winery and Morande Winery. Jaime was transferred to the US in 2001 with Morande to open and head up the winery’s first commercial branch in North America. Based in Atlanta, GA, his roles then included export and USA & Canadian market management with Ventisquero and Vicente Gandia Pla of Valencia, one of the top producers in Spain.
In 2015, Merino was pulled back into the world of Chilean wine, when he was tapped to lead the North American operations for awarded, multi-generational family winery, Vinos Santa Ema. He is responsible for strategy, sales and wine education. He travels through the US and Canada extensively to educate about Santa Ema’s family philosophy, extensive vineyards and celebrated wines with trade and consumers.
Mr. Merino has five children between the ages of 16 and 25 years old. As if that doesn’t keep him busy enough, is is also an avid gourmet, spending many of his weekends in the kitchen perfecting his own recipes and pampering friends and family with his culinary creations. He also has a strong passion for Chorale Music being an active member of the Cherokee Chorale in Atlanta, which performs alongside members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
