About this Event
The County of Santa Clara’s Sexual Health and Harm Reduction Program (SHHRP) and the City of San José invite you to our annual International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) event.
This year, we gather under the theme “Honoring Grief, Finding Connection,” creating a space that acknowledges our collective loss while strengthening the bonds of support within our community.
What to Expect:
- Memorial Altar: A dedicated space to honor and remember those lost to overdose. Community members are invited to bring photos or mementos.
- Resource and Services Fair: Over 25 community organizations providing low-barrier support, health information, and referrals.
- Life-Saving Training: On-site Naloxone (Narcan) training and free distribution.
- Peer Connection Tables: Facilitated spaces for those with shared lived experience—whether you have personally experienced overdose or have lost a family member.
- Community Voices: Storytelling, local leadership speakers, and an open mic to share your journey.
- Recognition of Heroes: A special moment to honor those in our community who have saved lives.
- Meal: We will provide a meal on a first come first serve basis until it runs out!
- Cost: Free and open to all.
By pre-registering, you help us ensure we have enough food, and Naloxone kits for everyone. It will also mean you can skip any registration on the day.
