Ready to move beyond the basics and bring more flavor, confidence, and personality to your salsa? This special pop-up workshop is designed for dancers with a **solid foundation in Salsa fundamentals** who are ready to deepen their movement quality, musicality, and self-expression on the dance floor.
In salsa, **“shines”** refer to solo footwork sequences traditionally danced when partners “break apart” during the music. Rooted in Afro-Caribbean movement traditions and heavily influenced by jazz, mambo, and the social dance culture of New York and Cuba, shines became especially popular during the mambo and salsa boom of the 1960s and 70s. Legendary dancers used shines as a way to showcase rhythm, creativity, and personal style while staying connected to the music.
**Styling** developed alongside shines as dancers began adding arm styling, body movement, spins, texture, and musical interpretation to elevate their dancing beyond simply executing patterns. Styling allows dancers to embody the music, communicate emotion, and develop an unmistakable presence on the dance floor.
This workshop will focus on:
✨ Salsa shines and footwork combinations
✨ Musicality and rhythm interpretation
✨ Body movement and Afro-Latin influence
✨ Arm styling, posture, and performance quality
✨ Confidence, flow, and individual expression
✨ Smooth transitions between partnerwork and shines
This is not a beginner workshop. Participants should already feel comfortable with salsa timing, basic turns, cross-body leads, and foundational partnerwork concepts.
Come ready to sweat, explore your unique movement style, and add more sabor to your salsa. Whether social dancing or performing, this workshop will help you dance with greater precision, confidence, and authenticity. 💃🏽🕺🏽
