Sangam

Veena virtuoso Ramana Balachandhran and tabla exponent Amit Kavthekar share the stage for a rare meeting of Carnatic and Hindustani traditions through evocative ragas and inspired improvisation.

Aptly titled 'Sangam', meaning confluence, this concert celebrates the meeting of two of India's great classical traditions. Bringing together the expressive depth of Carnatic music and the rhythmic brilliance of Hindustani music, it unfolds as a vibrant dialogue shaped by spontaneity and artistic exchange.

Representing the rich legacy of Carnatic music, Balachandhran showcases the lyrical beauty of the veena, one of India's most ancient and revered string instruments. Known for his distinctive style, elegant phrasing, and mastery of complex rhythmic structures, he is regarded as one of the leading contemporary exponents of the Saraswati veena. His artistry has also reached wider audiences through his work on the soundtrack of the film Dhurandhar, highlighting the instrument's timeless resonance in a contemporary context.

He is joined by Amit Kavthekar, a disciple of tabla legends Ustad Alla Rakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain, whose nuanced expression and sensitive accompaniment have enriched performances with leading Indian and international artists. Kavthekar's dynamic interplay with the veena brings balance, imagination, and depth to every composition.
