Rules and Additional Information for Sandy Par Mega Bowl Match Play Championships

Rounds:
Each round will be a shotgun start, you will be notified what round you are in no later than 48 hours before the event starts. Please see FAQ's below for info on check-in times and other questions.

Handicaps:
Handicaps are not used in this event.

Scoring:
Each hole is a separate contest. The player that completes a hole in the fewest strokes wins that hole. If both players complete the hole in the same number of strokes, the hole is considered halved (tied), and neither side wins a point for that hole.

Concession:
Players may concede a hole, meaning they acknowledge that their opponent's next stroke would likely result in a win for that hole. Players may concede putts that are close to the hole or even entire holes if they feel they have no chance of winning that hole.

Dormie:
If one player is ahead by the same number of holes remaining, they are "dormie." For example, if Player A is 2 holes up with 2 holes remaining, they are dormie. If Player A wins or ties the next hole, Player A would win the match.

Hole Halving: (Rules That Apply until the Final 8 Quarter Finals)
If the match is all square (tied) after the 5-holes are played, you must continue playing the next hole. (2 holes max) If after playing 2 additional playoff holes you and your opponent are still tied, you must both come to the practice area where there will be a designated match-play pitch off section where you would play a hole the same way you would on the course.

Hole Halving: (Final 8 Players)
If the match is all square (tied) after the 5-holes are played, you must continue playing the next hole until one of the players wins a hole. (sudden death)

Penalties:
Normal golf rules apply for penalties (e.g., out of bounds, water hazards, etc.). If a player incurs a penalty stroke, it counts toward their score for that hole, and their opponent may still win the hole by completing it in fewer strokes.

Behavior and Etiquette:
Good sportsmanship is essential in match play. Players should concede putts and holes promptly when appropriate. Cheering for good shots is encouraged, but distracting or unsportsmanlike behavior is not tolerated.

Ruling Question:
If there comes a time during the round where there is a rules question (e.g., light pole in the way, ball on drain, etc.) You must as your competitor for approval before you are able to move your ball. If there is still a disagreement after asking for permission from your competitor, you must call Rulings Judge over to make the decision for you. If you call rule judge over to make the decision for you, you lose all rights of refusal and must abide by the judges’ decision.

Cheating:
Cheating is not tolerated and you will be disqualified from the event immediately if there is proof of cheating without a reasonable doubt. (e.g., moving ball without approval, fluffing a lie) So don’t be Judge Smails.

Closets to the Pin Winners:
There are 10-holes at the Lakes at El Segundo. Each hole will have a closest-to-the-pin prize for the first 128 players. Each prize is equal value at over ($800 MSRP), neither is more special than the other. No player can win more than 1 closest to the pin prize. If 1 golfer is listed as the winner of multiple closest to the pin prizes, there will be a drawing to determine what hole prize they win. The prize for the other hole/s will be given to the next closest player listed on the sheet.
