Casey Ramey, IWER Program Coordinator for the Aquatic Center, will be our guide. We will explore the grounds and trails, check out the rain gardens, and learn about their water quality studies.
The Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center is located along Lake Beresford in DeLand, Florida. The facility is an interdisciplinary effort, providing a home for Stetson’s intercollegiate rowing program, and the Stetson Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience program. The second floor of the facility academic uses, including classrooms, laboratories, and a conference room.
The institute was conceived in 2014 to promote interdisciplinary learning and research, advance policy development, develop leadership for solving challenging environmental issues and demonstrate sustainability as a core Stetson value.
There are four primary focus areas: springs restoration, Indian River Lagoon restoration, climate adaptation and sustainability.
The site is also being developed into a botanical gardens themed on the 18th century travels of botanists John and William Bartram. It will be included within a regional Bartram Trail.
