About this Event

Sandbox@ Ages 8+

Islands of Brilliance (IOB) is packing up our art supplies, hitting the road, and heading to the Sherman Phoenix in Milwaukee!

Sandbox@ introduces autistic students and their families to IOB's in-person versions of our three virtual Sandbox programs.

Participants will have the chance to learn, create, and connect with other students in a safe and supportive environment through art, storytelling, and STEaM-based projects. Each workshop is 90 minutes but we have a hunch it will go by in the blink of an eye as we've got an action-packed schedule.

HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT DURING THE WORKSHOP!

We'll kick the morning off with a quick welcome and introduction followed by the Question of the Day where each participant gets to share their answers with the group. This helps everyone ease into the workshop and get the creative juices flowing for our first activity which is…

Smactivities or Subject Matter Activities! Students will be given a specific topic where they have the chance to dig into the subject, create a unique design, and share their awesomeness with their peers. Students bring their own spin to topics like "Create your own superhero shield," or "Animal Mashup." The sky's the limit! And we usually see some awesome creations.

We'll transition into the next activity with a storytelling exercise called Natterdays. "Natter" means to talk casually or to chatter. And we know our students love to talk about their favorite things! Natterdays captures that energy and enthusiasm and welcomes students to take turns and collaborate with one another to develop a one-of-a-kind story.

We'll wrap up with the Doodle Lounge! IOB encourages students to explore their creativity and interests alongside their peers. Using pencil, pen, and paper, participants will draw, create, and share their artwork with others.

WHAT ABOUT PARENTS AND SIBLINGS? CAN THEY JOIN IN THE FUN?

Absolutely! We strongly encourage family participation as it's a great way to experience firsthand the IOB magic.

If family members will be joining their student during the workshop, please make sure you select the appropriate ticket quantity during registration checkout.

Separate breakout space will also be available for families to relax, read, meet one another if you decide not to participate in the activities. You can use the time however you'd like!
