San Rafael Community Speed Safety & Radar / LIDAR Class

Have you ever wondered how speed limits are set in San Rafael? Have you wondered how police use RADAR / LIDAR to enforce those speed limits, or maybe you just want to test your ability to accurately guess how fast cars are actually driving and use a police LIDAR?

Join the San Rafael Police Department's Traffic Unit on September 27th, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM for a "crash course" in speed enforcement laws and procedures.

Students will meet in the San Rafael Public Safety Building's Emergency Operations Center for a brief presentation on speed laws in California and then move into a hands-on experience showing you how to use an actual police LIDAR device.

We will then take a short drive to the east side of town where students will have the opportunity to test one another on their ability to visually estimate speeds of vehicles, and of course the chance to confirm (or not!) their abilities with the use of an actual police LIDAR unit!

The course is free and limited to 20 residents of San Rafael.

Attenedee Requirements (may be verified upon arrival at the course)

• City of San Rafael residents only (bring proof: a license, utility statement, etc)
• No more than two attendees per household.
• Ages 16+, if under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
• Your own transportation to the in-field location. (Sorry, but we cannot drive you in a police vehicle!)

Class starts promptly at 2:00PM on Saturday, September 27th, and ends at approximately 4:00PM! Reserve your spot!
