About this Event
Join WTCSD and 35+ San Diego business, civic, and academic leaders for our 2026 San Diego to Japan Trade Mission, where you'll explore the Japanese market, learn about foreign investment and partnership opportunities, and represent San Diego on the global stage.
Why Japan? Japan has been the #1 source of foreign investment in San Diego for the past decade, with strong alignment in industries like life sciences, advanced manufacturing, defense, and AI. The partnership is reinforced by deep research and cultural ties—from UC San Diego’s presence in Tokyo to the Kyoto Prize Symposium hosted annually in San Diego—as well as growing Japanese investment across the border in Baja California. With Japan signaling new investment in the United States, San Diego is uniquely positioned to deepen this strategic partnership.
Led by Mayor Todd Gloria and U.S. Congressman Scott Peters, this trade mission aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and innovation, establish formal collaborations between key institutions, and create opportunities for high-growth small and medium-sized San Diego businesses looking to expand into Japan.
