Samudramanthan

Natya Samudra Manthan is a very important story of Indian mythological literature mentioned in the first part of the Vishnu Purana. In the Natya Shastra, written by Bharat Muni, it is considered to be the world's first theatrical experiment, which comes in the category of 'Samavakar' among the metaphors written by Bharat. However, no previous script of this play has been received by the literary scholars till now, but this dramatic experiment of Samudra Manthan is presented in the continuous process of creation. In the story, sage Durvasa gets angry with Devraj Indra and curses him to be inferior and powerless. Taking advantage of this opportunity, the demon king Bali defeats the gods like Indra and establishes his supremacy over the people of heaven. Due to this victory of the demons over the gods, demons and demonic tendencies started dominating the entire creation. At the behest of Lord Brahma, the Father of the Universe, all the gods including Indra prayed to the Supreme Lord Shri Vishnu for the protection of the universe and restoration of existence. Hearing the distress of the gods, Narayana, the sustainer of the universe, ordered them to churn his ocean of milk so that the truth and essence, that had vanished from the universe, could be restored, but for this, not only the power of the gods but also the strength of the demons was required, ie their demonic power. Knowing the tendency, giving them the allure of having equal rights over the gems obtained in the churning, and on the orders of Narayan, the churning of the nectar begins by including everyone. This presentation, staging another story within the story, reaches its conclusion by showing the historical sequence of the origin of drama.
