Sam's Corner w/ Jeremy Steinkoler, Joe Kyle Jr. & Jules Leyhe

Tonight Sam's Corner - which famously balances its jazzy blues offerings with an equal portion of bluesy jazz - will be leaning more in a straight blues and funk direction than usual.

That's because Sam's special guest is Jules Leyhe, a young blues guitarist who has been making quite a name for himself as the very definition of a hot new player whose hands and fingers are full of impressive licks, even as his heart and mind is equally full with a detailed and nuanced history of the great blues players who have come before.

You may have seen him around the Bay Area (and, indeed, at The Back Room) with his band The Family Jules. You can also see him on the stage of our friendly competitor, Oakland's Sound Room, where he has started hosting a monthly blues series featuring his own band and some well-known guests.

But that is not keeping him from being OUR guest on Sam's Corner, and it could be argued that THIS is where he can be seen to best advantage. Why? Well, the band is hard to beat. It will include Jeremy Steinkoler (one of NorCal's best drummers), and Joe Kyle Jr. (of the great HowellDevine band, and maybe NorCal's most formidable Blues bassists). And of course Sam Rudin at the piano.

Sam will also be sure to add in a few tunes from his usual repertoire - it is still Sam's Corner after all.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Children under 12 are free. Advance tickets are available here, or you may purchase your tickets at the door the night of the show.

Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash or Venmo only at the door.

The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own food and adult beverages with no additional corkage fee.
