Sambalkanica concert is a result of what happens when a singer from Serbia, Una Mirkovic, meets a pianist from Brazil, Willian Fernandes, in Luxembourg. This concert presents mainly Brazilian genres with a gamut of linguistic sonorities and rhythms from Balkans.The mixing of these two musical cultures fosters even more richness into possibilities of rhythms which are balanced in some new arrangements. In contrast to this prolific energy that emanates from these musics, other deep feelings are shared:
the Portuguese word in Brazilian culture saudade and the Bosnian and Serbian sevdah express nostalgia and melancholia, each one by its manner through music.
In this melting pot of southeast Brazil and east Europe, the feeling of liberty of through creativity and improvisation is a guide. Thus, one can predict performances of bossa nova, jazz standards and songs from the Balkans. In other words, each listener will create his own experience of listening from a well-known piece and discover a new relation of sounds from the unknown. Embark in this new musical partnership seizing the process of taking a different musical
direction.
Willian Fernandes
More than 20 years dedicated to music, Willian Fernandes is
pianist, composer and musicologist with undergraduate, master
and PhD. He teaches music through piano and solfège. Currently,
in Luxembourg, he develops his Piano Solo, Duo Sambalkanica and Itinerantes Dance Orchestra.
Una Mirković
As a child, Una played flute piano and study music theory. She sang backing vocals to different groups during her language studies. In 2011, she joins SeiLa, a bossa nova band in Belgrade, which allows her to discover different facets of Brazilian music. When settled in Luxembourg, she chooses to develop jazz at Conservatoire du Nord.
Una sang in two combos before forming Sambalkanica.
