Samba Workshop: Technique, Rhythm & Swing
Join us for an immersive, hands-on samba workshop designed to sharpen your timing, refine your technique, and bring that authentic Brazilian "swing" to your playing.
Whether you are looking to polish your skills or pick up fresh material, this full-day session is built to elevate a band's sound from the ground up. Led by an experienced player and educator, the day balances technical fundamentals with brand-new repertoire and dynamic breaks.
What to Expect
Timing & Technique: Groove-focused warm-ups and clapping-based rhythm drills to lock in our pocket.
New Repertoire: Learn fresh pieces section by section, complete with custom breaks.
Ensemble Flow: Practice seamless transitions, cueing, and full-band performance runs.
Schedule for the Day
1. Meet & Greet: Welcome and introductions.
2. Session Aims: Aligning on what everyone wants to get out of the day.
3. Warm-Up & Rhythm Lab: Ice-breaker timing and groove exercises.
4. Band Showcase: Play with Samba Do Bispo as we go through current material so we can tune into our band sound.
5. New Material: Breaking down a brand-new piece section by section.
6. Breaks & Dynamics: Integrating new breaks and practicing clean entries/exits.
7. Full Performance: Bringing everything together for a final run-through.
Come ready to play, sweat, and swing! No matter your ability or skill level designed fir complete beginners to samba pros.
Drums available on request - or bring your own samba drum.
There is plenty of onsight parking.
There will be time allocated for refreshments. Please bring your own or food outlets are very close by.
After the event, your ticket includes 4 free sessions with Samba Do Bispo and an invitation to join us playing what we learnt at Wells Carnival ion November 20th.
