Join us for an engaging talk with renowned artist Patti Warashina, facilitated by Carrie Dedon, SAM Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. This insightful program will delve into Warashina's illustrious 55+ year career and her artworks on view in Poke in the Eye: Art of the West Coast Counterculture, providing an in-depth look at her innovative creative process and the rich experiences that shaped her art during the dynamic 1960s and 70s in Seattle. Attendees will gain a unique perspective into Warashina's contributions to contemporary art and the cultural landscape of her time.
Patti Warashina was born in Spokane, Washington, in 1940. She earned her BFA and MFA from the University of Washington in 1962 and 1964. After teaching for 30 years, 25 of them at University of Washington, she retired as Professor Emerita in 1995. Warashina is internationally recognized for her technically refined, figurative sculptures that helped expand the boundaries of clay as a medium.
