Laura Pritchett is coming to Salt Lake City to celebrate her new novel Playing with Wildfire! Laura Pritchett will be giving a visual presentation about wildfire paired with a discussion of her novel.
As fires rage through communities across the world, and the earth's climate rapidly changes, how do we inhabit this moment? How should we write about the crisis?
When a wildfire bears down on a mountain community, residents find themselves gathering in unexpected ways—resulting in new friendships that bridge old wounds and political divides, love stories that sizzle, and new ways of rethinking the ways in which creatures inhabit a changing planet.
In Playing with Wildfire, award-winning author Laura Pritchett creates a literary landscape that is an experiment in form: a phone call from Mother Earth; an obituary for a wildfire; a burned mountain’s conversation with a lone woman and an injured bear. Every story captures how fire affects the human psyche and life, and considers how destruction can lead to renewal.
“At levels both micro and macro, Pritchett brings an electric connectivity to her portrait of the precariousness of this one wild, threatened world.”—BOOKLIST, starred review
