Salsa Sunday Workshop - Weymouth
Schedule
Sun Jun 30 2024 at 10:00 am to 01:00 pm
UTC+01:00Location
Centenary Club, Weymouth | Weymouth, EN
Cuban style Salsa is properly known as Casino. The origins of the name Casino are casinos deportivos, the dance halls where a lot of social dancing was done among the better off, white Cubans during the mid-1950s and onward.
Cuban Style dancers don’t care which way they end up facing at the end of a dance pattern. So, if you have issues with positioning on the more linear Cross Body style Salsa… Casino maybe the style for you! 😉
Cross Body Experience?
Cuban Salsa (Casino) is similar but different enough to Cross Body Salsa that we recommend starting at Beginner level, even if you already dance Cross Body Salsa! It’s a completely different discipline to learn.
Learning both styles of Salsa dance not only makes you a more rounded dancer, but it also makes you more likely to be able to dance wherever you want! Knowing only the one style actually limits you from being able to dance with other people, attend certain events and dance to particular songs!

OVERVIEW:
In this workshop we will be teaching the fundamentals of Cuban Style Salsa! We teach in a fun, yet informative manner! So hopefully you are guaranteed a laugh or two!
It is common practice to rotate students in the workshop, but if you attend with a partner and would like to remain with them for the duration of the workshop, then please let us know on your arrival.
We would like to keep the leader/follower ratio as even as possible. If you can attend with a partner great, if not we will evenly match individuals. Please remember that you don’t stay with this person for the duration of the workshop, it’s just to keep the numbers balanced. Individuals, couples and groups are all welcome!
WHAT WE WILL TEACH:
We will be introducing you to some of the basic moves and techniques to get you dancing Cuban Style Salsa. We will also be introducing you to the beautiful sounds of Cuban music! 🎶🎵
USEFUL INFORMATION:
You can wear whatever you like. However, you may feel more comfortable in clothes that don't restrict your movement. During the colder months, we recommend that you layer up! This is not an exercise class, so just casual clothing.
It would also be helpful to wear shoes that won't slip off or grip the floor. Trainers aren’t ideal, as they restrict your movement and could potentially cause injury. Any comfortable shoe with a smooth sole is adequate.
YOUR TEACHERS:
Mal – UKA qualified Salsa Dance Teacher since 2004 and has 26 years’ experience of dancing Salsa.
Susana – Latino from birth, so has been dancing all her life!
We are both passionate about Salsa music and the dance .. we look forward to sharing our passion with you!
