WHAT IS CUBAN SALSA?
Salsa’s primary cultural lineage lies in Cuba with a 1950s partner dance called Casino that arose from other Cuban dances, Son and Cha-Cha-Cha. Their ancestry is linked to another dance called Danzon, which combined 19th century European Contradanzas and African rhythms. Cuba's beautiful lineage of music and dances have been popularised and preserved around the world and live on in the dances we teach today, such as Casino AKA Sals, Rumba, Afro-Cuban Orishas, Mambo, Bolero and Cubaton.
OUR TEACHER: Vivio teaches an authentic down-to-earth style that is inclusive of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. With more than 40 years experience, Vivio has trained 1,000s of dance students around the South Pacific region, and at least a dozen teachers. For 20 years, he worked as a professional dancer, including Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, which revolutionised modern dance in Cuba by combining Afro-Caribbean dance styles, classical European Ballet and modern Western theatre.
