Marie-Jo Bonnet, born in 1949 in Deauville, is an art historian, writer, and lecturer. Involved in the Women's Liberation Movement since 1971, she defended a pioneering thesis on romantic relationships between women from the 16th to the 20th century. She has authored over twenty books on women's history, art, and the Resistance. She has taught at Columbia University and Carleton College in Paris. Recently, she organized exhibitions in Rennes and Brest and chaired the "Friends of the Foundation for the Memory of Deportation" association.
10:50-11:35 am: SOPHIE DANGER
French author Sophie Danger will join us online at the Alliance to discuss her book “Alice Milliat. La femme olympique”, which chronicles the life of the pioneering athlete who championed women's inclusion in the Olympic Games. IN FRENCH.
After wanting for a long time to become a dancer and then a psychoanalyst, Sophie Danger ultimately became a journalist. She began her career at the newspaper L’Équipe, then moved to a digital newsroom before transitioning to television. From presenting news programs to producing magazines, she discovered the world of visual media. She then ventured into writing and directing her first documentary, a web series dedicated to toilet graffiti (Aux chiottes la liberté), from which she also wrote a book. Since then, she has definitively given up dancing to focus on the pursuit of great stories, which she tells through words or images. She now collaborates with various media outlets (notably ÀBLOCK!, which specializes in women's sports), writes and directs documentaries (most recently, AJ Hackett, His Majesty of the Extreme).
12-12:40 pm: DR. LINDSAY SARAH KRASNOFF
American author Dr. Lindsay Sarah Krasnoff will be at the Alliance to discuss her book “Basketball Empire: France and the Making of a Global NBA and WNBA”. Dr. Krasnoff is an expert in intercultural communication in the global sports arena. IN ENGLISH.
Dr. Lindsay Sarah Krasnoff is a globally-recognized sports diplomacy expert and Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University’s Tisch Institute for Global Sport. Specializing in Franco-United States relations through sports, she is author of Basketball Empire: France and the Making of a Global NBA and WNBA (Bloomsbury, 2023), “Views From the Embassy: The Role of the U.S. Diplomatic Community in France, 1914,” (U.S. Department of State, 2014), The Making of Les Bleus: Sport in France, 1958-2010 (Lexington Books, 2013), directs the FranceAndUS project and has written for national and international media like TIME, CNN International, The Athletic, The Washington Post, The New Yorker. Her consulting work centers around helping global sport stakeholders better understand sports diplomacy and their roles as different types of sports diplomats. A veteran of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of the Historian, Krasnoff holds a B.A. from George Washington University; M.A. from NYU; PhD in History from The Graduate Center, City University of New York.
12:45-1:25 pm: SHELLY BREEN
American children's book author Shelly Breen will be at the Alliance to discuss her books, which advocate for equity in sports and aim to help all children feel seen. IN ENGLISH.
Shelly Breen is the author and creator of Shelly Bean the Sports Queen, a children’s book series whose main character is a tough little girl who loves to learn new sports. She has spoken to over 110,000 children and 10,000 adults across the country sharing a message of perseverance and helping all kids see themselves in books. Breen also founded the Let Me Play grants to help Minnesota girls who can’t afford to play sports – now part of the Ann Bancroft Foundation. An entrepreneur, Breen’s career has spanned physical education, high school and collegiate coaching, WNBA business management, leadership development, executive and life coaching, real estate and more, all with an emphasis on self-discovery, relationship building, teamwork and advocacy.
