Sakubai

Step into the vibrant, gripping, and deeply moving world of Sakubai—a powerful solo performance written by Sangeet Natya Akademi awardee playwright Nadira Babbar and directed by acclaimed production designer in Indian cinema Jayant Deshmukh.

Set against the bustling backdrop of Mumbai, the play follows Sakubai, a domestic worker whose life is a relentless battle for survival amid hardship and tragedy. From enduring early childhood trauma and exploitation to shouldering the burdens of a broken family, her journey is a testament to the iron will of a woman who refuses to break.

Featuring a stunning generational shift—from a mother denied schooling to a daughter who becomes a writer urging her to read—Sakubai is a raw, emotional rollercoaster about courage, endurance, and quiet revolution.
