ABOUT DR.REELAVIOLETTE'S POETRY SET
Dr. ReeLaviolette's set for Saints & Sinners is inspired by Ryan Coogler's 2025 film, Sinners, which explores necessary questions about Black life and Black death, spirituality, somatic embodiment, and ancestral memory. The poems featured will draw from her extensive body of work, including poignant pieces from her 2021 book, entitled mourning my inner[blackgirl]child, which celebrates 5 years on the day of this show! She will be accompanied by the incredible Bianca Brown, who will also offer a powerful set of vocal melodies following her accompanyment.

Black Joy Parade Weekend is a sacred time in The Town. It is a time to gather, remember, reflect, and ground. It is a time to tend to our souls through the celebration of our magic - a time to conjure and convene, to create and to connect. This year, we hope that you will kick off your Black Joy Parade weekend with us! We will be taking you on a soulful journey of melodies and tunes, including a DJ set by the one and only DJ Lowkii Ri.
