**5-Week Landscape Painting Class**
Tuesdays 6-8pm at Glassy Studios starting June 23 and concluding on July 21.
**Week 1 – Composition, Perspective & Underpainting**
We’ll begin with the foundations of landscape painting, focusing on composition and perspective. Students will learn how to establish a strong horizon line, create a focal point, and sketch their landscape with correct perspective. We’ll then begin a thin underpainting, blocking in basic shapes and values to build a solid foundation.
**Week 2 – Skies, Atmosphere & Color Relationships**
This week focuses on the sky and atmospheric depth. We’ll explore hue vs. value, warm and cool color relationships, and how they affect distance. Students will practice painting gradient skies, soft clouds, and creating a sense of space through color and value shifts.
**Week 3 – Water & Middle Ground Development**
We’ll build depth by adding water elements and developing the middle ground. Students will learn how to paint reflections, ripples, and movement in water, while also blocking in mid-ground forms. We’ll focus on overlap and layering to enhance depth.
**Week 4 – Structures, Mid-Ground Detail & Refinement**
This week introduces more detailed landscape elements such as trees, landforms, and structures. Students will refine scale and proportion while learning how light and shadow interact across different surfaces to create realism and depth.
**Week 5 – Foreground, Texture & Final Painting**
We’ll complete the landscape by building the foreground with strong texture and detail. Techniques such as dry brushing, palette knife work, and stippling will be introduced. Students will add finishing highlights, adjust edges, balance the composition, and complete a final group critique to celebrate finished work.
