About this Event
Join us under the stars and carnival lights of the Shipyard in Silver Spring for an evening of both HI-NRG and lo-fi electronic music with and !
Safety Bear is an independent Hi-NRG electronic artist who weaves together pulsing dance beats and immersive atmospheres with subject matter typically alien to the dance floor. Safety Bear’s energetic live performances and studio recordings deliver original Hi-NRG bangers (and the occasional re-imagined dance classic) via the intriguing guise of a neurotic (and slightly injured) teddy bear. The injured ear, as of yet, remains unexplained.
Sad Veiled Bride is a solo endeavor from Bev Stanton, whose electronic project Arthur Loves Plastic has been featured in the background of late night cable TV programs. Sad Veiled Bride blends acoustic and electronic elements to create introspective soundscapes that lead the audience on a journey through personal grievances and ennui. Sad Veiled Bride’s music is lo-fi, beat heavy and infused with 80’s influences. Employing the ukulele as a centerpiece, Stanton crafts melancholic ditties that serve as cathartic laments for the artist and listener. Haunting vocals and processed instrumentation create an ethereal atmosphere, while electronic beats and flourishes propel the mercifully short songs to satisfying yet ambiguous ends.
The Shipyard is a popup venue in Silver Spring with a donation door. Donations are split between the artists and Abodes Joy a MD-based nonprofit that trains and empowers diverse learners – women, nonbinary folx, and transgender people – in home repair to build skills, confidence, and community.
