Course Description

This 6-day workshop will cover artistic best practices and strategies for approaching intimate and/or intense scenes for the stage and screen. Participants will learn techniques, exercises, closure practices, relevant union agreements, and nonviolent communication skills. These tools can be used by any performing arts creative looking to create and/or a supportive space for confident performance work. Additional topics will include considerations for youth, access needs, and cultural needs.

This workshop is offered in partnership with Fight Directors Canada during the National Certification Stage Combat Conference.

About the Instructors

Principal Intimacy Professionals promotes growth within the theatre, television and film industries through the development of new protocols and techniques for scenes of intimacy, simulated sex, and nudity. We strive towards brave and compelling performances supported by a safe environment cultivated by mindful professionals.

Our intimacy professionals have over 25+ years of collective experience and training in intimacy alone. On top of their other professional pursuits and skill sets, we have created a strong team who has served Canada’s performing industries for over 5 years.

Instructors: Sam Jeffery, Phay Moores and Anastasia St. Amand

Who Can Attend

Actors, actor combatants, fight instructors/directors, theatre//film directors, teachers, coaches, acting/directing post-secondary students, artistic directors. Any creative of any level!

This should not be a cost-prohibitive opportunity for you. If you need financial assistance, or would like to apply for one of our full or half bursaries, please fill out our 5 minute application.

Additional Information

Neither of these workshops will make an individual qualified to be an Intimacy Director or Intimacy Coordinator.

Participants will be offered a letter of completion. It is up to the discretion of individual organisations, institutions, and potential mentors if they would like to accept your hours for training/certification.
