The safeguarding of children and their protection is an essential task for all early years educators. Educators must receive safeguarding training as set out in the EYFS safeguarding and Welfare Requirements, annex C.
The training takes a step-by-step approach to ensuring EYFS requirements are met so that educators are confident and skilled in knowing how to recognise, respond, record and refer safeguarding concerns. Learners will explore the factors, situations and actions that could lead or contribute to abuse harm and neglect. The training also provides information on legislation, local policies and procedures and national guidance.
Session aims
- Consider the importance of safeguarding and child protection for your role
- Understand current legislation and guidance and expected role and responsibilities within the EYFS
- Understand the range of possible signs, symptoms and indicators of abuse and the factors, situations and actions that could lead or contribute to abuse, harm or neglect
- Consider how diversity, race etc should and could be considered
- Understand how your setting’s safeguarding policy and procedures support effective practice
- Understand how to respond, record and effectively refer concerns in a timely and appropriate way internally and externally
- Know what actions to take when you have concerns about a colleague
The training will be interactive with small and whole group activities to prompt deeper level thinking and application of theory in to practical situations and context. Learners will be provided with an action plan template containing headings for the various topics covered during the training. After each topic there will be a reflection point when learners will have the opportunity to identify an appropriate takeaway action they will implement personally in their practice or share with colleagues. The emphasis will be on supporting learners to consider the impact of the training on their practice and the outcomes of the children they work with.
