The West Side Streets Committee invites everyone to come by and check out the daylighting installation popping up at the intersection of Lancaster Ave and Connell Street over the weekend June 5 - June 8. Daylighting is a strategy that involves marking out a buffer zone in the 20 feet of curbspace closest to an intersection in order to increase visibility and make the road safer for users–especially turning cars and crossing pedestrians. This particular installation will use temporary paint and flexible delineator posts to visually and physically block out that area.
The West Side Streets Committee will survey residents during and after the pop-up to collect observations about safety improvements in order to gauge community support for a more durable daylighting solution and/or other options. Your feedback is valuable!
Volunteers are needed to help throughout the weekend. Help with setting up the installation from 9 AM -12 PM on Friday, June 5 and/or taking it down in the morning on Monday June 8.
On Friday at 12, come out for a ribbon cutting ceremony after the installation of daylighting is complete and the road is reopened with these safety measures in place.
On Friday at 5, stop by the celebration at the intersection for water ice and to discuss daylighting and other safety improvements needed.
