Flying V and Noble Blades team up once again to bring you the SAFD Theatrical Firearms Safety Course!
Guns carry power—dangerous, persuasive, polarizing, and at times life-saving. In theatre, you may eventually need to handle a firearm on stage. With the right training, you can create powerful, transformative moments while protecting the safety of your actors, crew, and audience.
This workshop encompasses more than 14 hours of training over two days with SAFD Fight Master and Theatrical Firearms Instructor Robb Hunter. The course focuses on terminology for the most common types of firearms and ammunition, the protocols for handling these firearms, techniques for gun wrangling on set or on stage, procedures for cleaning, handling jamming, and other potential malfunctions, as well as a brief history. The course culminates in a certification test that includes a written and practical portion, the latter being a staged “shoot out”.
All firearms, ammunition, ear and eye protection will be provided for you. You may bring your own eye and ear protection subject to instructor approval. The course has no prerequisites.
