Sacred Song Circle led by Tuwe with traditional Huni Kuin Cantoria

Forces of the Forest are arriving!

Tuwe is a spiritual leader and Chief of his tribe, the Huni Kuin people of the Brazilian Amazon. He is from a long line of tradition of medicine people. He shares this ceremony with the support of all his ancestors and community. Tuwe has a clear connection with the spiritual world and strives to build harmony for all people. Join us in sharing Tuwe’s cultural and religious rituals on this day of healing and co-existence.

Tuwe lives in the Huni Kuin (Kaxinawá) Indigenous Territory of Rio Humaitá, São Vicente village, in the city of Tarauacá in Acre, Brazil. This is a 5 day boat ride from the nearest town. He is a filmmaker and has already produced a documentary about the indigenous peoples who still live voluntarily isolated in the Western Amazon, located on the border strip between Brazil and Peru.

As an Agroforestry agent, he also works in the Environmental Territorial Management of his homeland and surroundings. He is also a leader, thinker and messenger for his people, both domestically and internationally.

He has been researching his culture, cultivating his native spirituality and following the path of sacred medicines from a very young age with his father. Tuwe is the youngest son of the Tribal leader, Vicente Saboia Nawa Iba Nai Bai Huni Kuin, who worked for the protection of the Rio Humaitá Indigenous Land and for the rights and empowerment of his people. Although his father is no longer on this physical plane, he lives on as a warrior and a patriarch of the Huni Kuin Land of the Humaitá River.

Tuwe will be sharing two sacred medicines from the Amazon, called Sananga and Rapé.

● Sananga is utilized as a healing eye drop, it is the juice extracted from the roots of an Amazonic plant, "Mata Heins" from the Huni Kuin dialect. From inside of the roots, a juice in decoction is extracted, which is utilized to cure the "Panemas" spiritual diseases. The warrior Indians, before going hunting, will take a drop in each eye, making their perception sharpened, so they can perceive subtle movements in the dense forest Sananga works in the main energetic healing ways: Physical and Spiritual.

● Hape/Rapé (pronounced “ha-peh”), a powerful, cleansing snuff used as part of important medicinal rituals. This medicinal tobacco helps focus and sharpen the mind, also clears a person of distracting, bad energies in preparation for intention setting. It clears sinuses of mucus and bacteria, thereby helping to combat colds and respiratory ailments. It provides a calming, grounding effect on the emotions that last much longer than the initial sensation.
