Join Sam & Sarah inside the Temple walls for a two-day journey as we embark on a sacred act of creation and intention as we handcraft our very own Red Rattle, a powerful and personal tool used in ceremony, healing, and ritual. Working with elk energy, and a vibrant Earth-based red colorant, you will create a rattle that resonates with both beauty and purpose, connecting you deeply to the ancient traditions of sound and spirit and our ancestors.
The red rattle is a symbol of vitality, passion, and transformation. The rhythmic sound it produces carries with it the vibrations of the earth, the elements, and our own heartbeat, making it a sacred instrument for invoking energy, grounding, and personal power. As we work with our hands to shape, sew, and form the rattle, we will also journey inward, setting clear intentions for how we will use this rattle to amplify our inner voice, align with our purpose, and honor the rhythms of life.
In this workshop, we will:
-Learn the art of crafting a rattle from elk hide, working with natural materials to create something both functional and sacred
-Discover different sounds created by different elements inside (corn, rice, copper pellets, or beans), and choosing which unique sound you would like to use
-Explore the significance of sound and rhythm in spiritual practice, and how the rattle can be used in ceremony and personal rituals
-Infuse our rattles with intention, allowing each creation to reflect our unique energy, desires, and connection to the world around us
-Craft and decorate the handle of the rattle, combining colors, beads, feathers, wood burning, and other decorative elements that speak to your heart’s journey
-Engage in a ceremonial moment of blessing our rattles, activating their energy and honoring the deep connection between the maker and the created object

Throughout this process, you will be guided step-by-step, learning the techniques of working with elk hide, creating wooden handles, tying, dyeing, and embellishing your rattle with intention and care. Each piece will be a reflection of your unique energy, created with reverence and love, so no two are ever alike!
The act of making the rattle becomes a meditative practice—a way to center your mind, align your intentions, and connect with the natural world. The elk, a symbol of strength, endurance, and grace, will lend its spirit to the process, imbuing the rattle with energy that can be called upon in times of celebration, healing, or quiet reflection.
No prior crafting experience is required—just a willingness to explore, create, and connect deeply with yourself and the materials at hand. This is a sacred space to honor your own creativity, express your inner voice, and craft an instrument that will serve as a powerful tool on your journey. Please note, due to the materials and process, it can be a labor of love. The sewing requires a bit of pushing and pulling, so moderate hand strength and dexterity is required. We will meet Saturday and Sunday from 12-4pm. By the end of this 2-day workshop, you will leave with a handmade red rattle, ready to be used in ceremony, ritual, or as a personal talisman of strength and transformation. Your rattle will be a powerful reminder of your own creative potential and the vibrant energy you can carry into the world.
