This event at Sacramento Poetry Center will expand your consciousness. Paul Aponte will be sharing some new works and from the book DEL CACTUS. Richard's book will reveal how a life of courage through pain and tribulations does in fact lead to the great choices that lead to a life well lived. PTSD is worth fighting and coming to grips with, and from the rest of us worth understanding.
BIOGRAPHY
Richard T. García, an Indigenous Yaqui Chicano, is a retired California Deputy Labor Commissioner, a retired Ohio Civil Rights Investigator, former Defense Department Accounting Technician a former California GSA EEO Investigator, a former San Jose Police Department Police Officer, and Bilingual Vocational Instructor. This is his first book, a memoir entitled From San Jose to Viet ‘Nam and Back (2024, Conocimientos Press).
ABOUT THE BOOK
San José to Viet 'Nam and Back is a book that recounts the experience of Richard T. García, a Chicano from a nice family in San Jose California. He suffers PTSD from the Vietnam War and spends time trying to remedy his mental health and claim military benefits and accountability for his lifetime. His wife and family along with the love of music making has helped him cope and survive these trying times.

BIOGRAPHY
Paul Aponte is a Chicano Poet from Sacramento. He is a member of the writers group Escritores Del Nuevo Sol, and also a board member of Círculo De Poetas & Writers.
He has been published in the Tecolote Press anthology Poetry In Flight, Sacramento Poetry Center's quarterly Poetry Now, Un Canto De Amor A Gabriel Garcia Márquez (a publication from the country of Chile containing poems from around the world with 31 countries represented), in the anthology Soñadores - We Came To Dream, in La Bloga - a Los Angeles online publication, and in the Los Angeles Review Volume 20 - Fall 2016. He was also the editor's choice in the online journal Convergence, and now has a new book out called DEL CACTUS available through Prickly Pear Press and Amazon.com.
